Gian Lorenzo Bernini, David, 1623-1624, Carrara marble, 170 cm, Galleria BorgheseRome

Bernini’s David makes it intersculptural and interartistic through its relationship with the biblical text.

In sculpture

The Wave, a masterpiece by Camille Claudel, makes intersculptural, intermusical (The Sea) and interpictorial (The Poppies, The Rocks of Beautiful Island) references to the work of Proust, Monet and Debussy.

The beauty of Bernini’s masterpiece lies in the harmonious blending of the arts, from the sculpture at the center of the chapel Cornaro and the architecture in which the work is set, to the painting on the ceiling of the Church of Santa Maria Della Vittoria in Rome. The beautiful composto of this setting represents a transcendent scenography, something out of the ordinary, allowing the work to illustrate the sublime wonderfully through interartistic, intersculpturality, intertheatrality and interarchitecturality.
